Regarding recruiting, Hero just listed the top 40 recruits in FCS. Powell was #20; Only PL player on the list. The Ivies had a few on the list.
Campbell had 5 of the Top 40 listed players. That came out of nowhere. Watch for Campbell in the next 3 to 4 years on the National FCS scene.
I would agree - Safety and LB will be players to watch for.

Interesting about Campbell. Their head coach, Mike Minter, played for the Panthers for a decade and has been HC at Campbell since 2013. He’s 39-54. I wonder why the sudden burst of good recruiting.

The group I came in with in the fall of 68 put two players in the NFL-Eddie Jenkins and Billy Adams. I think both Jaffe Dickerson and Teddy Wells( my pre-season roommate) had a shot but stopped playing, and then there was Danny Harper who I thought was the best on our team. Crucius, Spenser and KOT might have other thoughts? Ed, Your comments bring back a lot of memories. Carlin 3 had a lot of football players and we had a lot of fun which was reflected in our CUM. Mark Monty, Mark Becker (a great punter), and Howie Burke were floormates. Mike Pazik lived next door to me and he was probably was the best quarterback in the school but couldn't 't play football due to his baseball scholarship. We had many good athletes on the floor and won freshman football and basketball intramurals. If my memory is correct, the football coaches thought we had a loaded freshman class but it all blew up with hepatitis OUR sophomore year. I also remember Danny Harper's buddy , Ed Cooney, as a very good football player. Hard to believe it was 54 years ago.

Mark Becker was a very good athlete. He came in as a QB and ended up as a DB and punter. Freshman year in our game against BC he had two punts over seventy yards- net and I think our senior year he nailed one from inside the 15 to the other 3-- great winds at Fitton helped Howie was a tough kid and a good leader, but if I remember correctly, he transferred to Hofstra?? Cooney was incredibly talented and came in from West Point I think. Agree about Pazik as perhaps the best athlete in the class. He and I had a discussion at Congressional sometime in the late 80s about his football talents-- Great memories as you say Kevin and just so hard to think it all started 54 years ago-- I had hepatitis when I was 7 years old after we moved back to the US from Turkey- not a disease I would want to have again. Needed to work more at Hogan and the truck yard so switched to Rugby

Has to be some combination of a dedicated NIL staff/marketing plan as well as the portal? I wonder if they have aspirations to follow in Liberty's footsteps although many differences monetarily with those 2 schools.

Did Wells play a minute of varsity football? I remember Jaffe Dickerson's name, he must have.
Incoming groups from 72-74 had some talented kids (football44 being one of them), but not enough. Lack of depth led to a lot of 4th quarter meltdowns, IIRC. Ed Doherty's tenure had some up bright spots, but not sustainable.

Ted stepped away after his first year- I think Jaffe gave it through year 2 but don't recall with any degree of certainty
Both played HS football in DC- Coolidge and Carrol (also gave us Peter Muldoon and Pat O'Brien)

Ted Wells played a little before I got on campus. He had already graduated with Jaffe Dickerson, Eddie Jenkins and Joe Wilson. Just to refresh memories my freshman year I also played with Davey Lyle, Mike Palmer and Greg Metcalf. Tommy Rock was our punter (step out of the end zone against Syracuse (5-3 Loss). Joe Neary who recently died was on the team as well. I will tell you this we had some unbelievable talent on the team back then. I only wish Doherty understood like Coach Chesney does that an off season conditioning program is instrumental in the teams success.

Joe's brother Bob was a talent- he worked a ton of hours after practice on the top of the cold and windy hill with Phil O'Neil

Powell at #20. The player ahead of him at #19 was offered by three schools, Arizona, Montana State, and Utah State (IIRC). How does he merit a composite score above Powell, with about 20 FBS offers?,

I honestly have no clue to PP's question above. What I do know is that HC got a real good one with Powell.

Does anyone else think it interesting/curious that no one on the Hero Top-40 list, other than our commit Powell, shows an offer from Holy Cross? How many of them would have gotten in outside of the few Ivy kids, most of whom had a ton of FBS offers? I think we’re making good decisions about who we pursue based on whether they can get in and whether we have a chance of landing them. In Powell’s case, we have a lot of people he knows on the team, including high school classmate Sam Slade. So we were able to prioritize and land him due to those connections.

Joe was a Boisture recruit who originally was a member of the ‘72 class. He decided to delay his enrollment and spent the additional year at Assumption Prep.

There was a good tweet from Della Jacono yesterday.
I don't know how to copy a Tweet link, but in a nutshell it in response to Powell being listed on Top 40 recruit list - "I think......We ain't done yet."
Love it.

He said the offensive game plan was "give the ball to Joe".
