The second leading scorer on Lafayette, Tyrone Perry, has entered the Transfer Portal.
He started all 15 of their games and averaged 35 min a game.
There must be a story there somewhere.

He is a senior so he might be preparing for his grad program somewhere?

He is a senior so he might be preparing for his grad program somewhere? Certainly a possibility.....but very unusual timing you must admit.

not really given coaches/schools are trying to finalize recruiting for next fall. He can always sign late with the transfer portal being what it is, but he might need to be in the portal for coaches to talk to him?

He is a senior so he might be preparing for his grad program somewhere? Yes, that's certainly what he's doing. He can't return to Lafayette to use the 5th covid year, so it makes sense to get his name in the portal. LC won't care since they know he can't return.

I would expect this to be a common thing through the end of 2024. As long as there are people who played in 2020-21 and have that extra year of eligibility, there will be people looking to follow the lead of Butler and Faw

With Fran O'Hanlon stepping down, there will be more transfers to come I bet at Lafayette.
Question: When one enters the Portal, they are immediately off the team. Correct?

Doubtful, especially for a senior who is not returning

Gates' status for next year is unknown, right?

KInd of.
Somewhere this season we heard that Townsel was the only senior on the team. That would be consistent with the academic plans both Townsel and Gates had when they transferred in.,

I'm not positive, but I do not think this is the case....He could return next season at most schools. The portal just allows other schools to make contact with the player, not sure if there is a start date to this...... Bison, do you know the correct answer?

No, they are not immediately off the team. It is just a way of letting coaches know they are available for next year. A coach could opt to remove someone from the team - presumably an underclassman - but that player would still have his scholarship until the end of the semester. There is no way Perry won't finish the season. We'll see about Lafayette, but I doubt there will be any big number of transfers. Maybe one. On a similar note, Bucknell has a couple of good senior lacrosse players who entered the portal during first semester. They will be playing for Bucknell this semester but are looking to play elsewhere next year and get a master's.

Yes, we’ll see a lot of that in hoops the next couple of years. It was a bit awkward for HC last year when we had a lineman playing spring football who was already committed to play elsewhere. Given the injury possibilities. But, folks just have to be flexible.

Who is this “morning hangover” ? Do they have any credibility ? I do think Kyrell is wanted by some stronger teams.

You're going to see tweets from everyone and their uncle about who is going where.
It's a fact of life at our level for the foreseeable future until there is some kind of sane rule put in (e.g., two years at your first school unless the coach leaves or there is mutual agreement that the player should move on; IMHO; the coach leaving was always a bone of contention, and perhaps rightfully so).
I don't know what to make of Luc anyway- he could torture us or (God forbid) his new school for 4 years or he could be an All-American by the time he's a senior.

Ahh, the hyperbole.😊 Luc is a fine player but his upside is not All American level. Your point is taken though.

I could have said "he could be a college level Isiah Thomas (the little guy, not the IU/Piston guy) in five years or Steve Strother (the PC player from the 70s that, according to either Peter Gammons or Bob Ryan; had the uncanny ability to keep both teams in the game at the same time)".
