Particularly ones that qualify under the AI. This is the type of kid we could use.......I'll dream on Justin Vander Bann, a BC 7 footer and cousin of AVB... HE IS NOT IN THE PORTAL ....He played in 11 games this season.. but is the type of player we could get IF HE DECIDED TO ENTER THE PORTAL.... I CAN DREAM OF A DECENT 7 FOOTER!!!! Don't waste your time dreaming about Justin... from what I have heard, he could not get by admissions to HC...

Foster already transferred once when he moved one year ago from a D2 school in Oklahoma to UNH. I think that means if transfers again he will have to sit one year.

How does the AI apply to transfers? For students who have completed less than three college semesters, the AI will be calculatedusing the students SAT score, plus high school rank, plus grades/rank from their first year in college. After students have completed three or more semesters of college, then the only thing that matters is there GPA or class rank. From high school or from their previous college or university? Seems ridiculous to be going back to look at SAT scores or HS grades when we're talking about students who have already completed collegiate course work. IMO, transfer admission should simply be up the admissions dept. of each individual school. Maybe have a college GPA floor of 2.5 or something like that.

Hope the staff surprises us, because frankly I'm not feeling all that optimistic at the moment.

Hope the staff surprises us, because frankly I'm not feeling all that optimistic at the moment. In our particular case, the glut of available players either through the "extra Covid year" or the transfer portal should allow more talented high school kids than usual falling through the cracks. We don't have a place for 5th year players and transferring to HC is difficult in most cases. Of course, not sure if I trust the staff to identify which ones will help the program.

A new President and Athletic Director...One never knows what is happening in those Hallowed Halls!

AU's Josh Alexander enters the portal. Fifth-year senior. Not a total shock, though we could have used him next year.

His passing hurt us in the PL tourney, especially on the many back door hoops.

From Jared Curry on Twitter, in regards to as why so many players are in the transfer portal...
"Because they can…in my day the numbers would have been the same if the portal existed."

The portal is huge because you can tell the world you're reopening your recruitment.
Another factor is the new rule waiving the year of sitting out. Makes bringing in transfers more desirable

So we have three guys in the portal with no clue if any of them will have a chair to sit in when the music stops.
This must be the evaluation period when coaches and players kick each other's tires.
It must be stressful on the players. I spoke to a friend one time who said her daughter wanted to transfer from her current college where she had an excellent financial aid package to another college which did not give any grants to transfers, had been accepted and was psyched to transfer.
I didn't mean to be cruel but just asked a logical question "by when do you have to have the check in?"
My friend had a panic attack and had to hang up the phone. The daughter never did transfer and has lived happily ever after.
Foley posted that BC announced a price increase bringing the cost of one year over $80,000. The Portal is serious business.

I assume he will have a chair when the music stops. It might not be a chair playing basketball in grad school, but he also has the same option many of his classmates have: Take his degree and get a job

A Division 2 grad school opportunity is worth a lot too, if that's what Townsel ends up with?

So it's only two who may be feeling butterflies in their stomach until everything is signed, sealed and delivered. Their other option would have been to have their cake and eat it, too by completing their HC degree and then entering the portal as a grad transfer for their free Covid year. It will be interesting to see if they end up in a better spot.

Inaccurate on my part, but I end not to think of HC grads as being in the portal. Earlier in the thread when I was listing off all the HC kids that have gone into the portal, I didn't count Butler or Faw

As we have speculated, I think there is some level of tampering going on. Some kids might have a landing spot before they even enter the portal. Not saying that is the case for Humphrey or Martindale, but it is likely happening. Heck, we read about a coach who doesn't let his players shake hands after a game because of potential recruiting whispers in the ear

Isn't there a 'confidential process' to enter the NCAA portal? i,e, through the school's compliance officer, who could wait up to 3 days before entering the player's info?
can a walk on use the portal?

The entire process is supposed to be confidential, but players want to use the media and/or social media to drum up interest in themselves to they are happy to publicly announce when they've entered the portal. I believe the compliance department and one designated coach from the staff (if I'm remembering correctly) have access to the actual portal
