If I was a huge supporter of Coach Nelson and thought he was going to be the one to bring the program back to where we all want it to be and I finally had some decent material to work with for the first time in 3 years, the last thing I would do is continue to make comparisons to Chesney. That is the worst way to change hearts and minds around here. We’ve won 4 of 5. We’re winning close games. Several individuals have gotten a lot better. The team defense is a lot better. We play hard for 40 minutes. Go with those things. Stop with the comparisons to the guy with three league titles in a row and who has won 18 of 21 PL games after taking over a program that had won 11 of its last 32. It’s never going to be a winning argument.

But I will debate anyone who says that Nelson didn’t inherited a MUCH worse deck of cards than Chesney. Look at the players (already posted), staff (Smith, Vaganek, Dimichele, Noonan), and competitive landscape of the league (dog poop for pL football), as well as the new football facility and alumni support system. I don’t think anyone could actually present a case that the two situations are even remotely close. Go Cross Go (all sports)!!

I learned long ago that I didn’t have to engage in every argument someone makes. If someone says, “Chesney’s amazing and BN sucks,” I would say, you’re right, Chesney is great but I don’t think BN sucks and here’s why . . . . No need to fight the Chesney part just because someone else tries to draw you into that argument.

I guess the "Brett Nelson inherited a dumpster fire" mantra is another effort to buy him a couple of more years before there are any expectations of posting a winning record.

I guess the "Brett Nelson inherited a dumpster fire" mantra is another effort to buy him a couple of more years before there are any expectations of posting a winning record. Nope, that has been the stone cold truth since Day 1. The timetable for competing for a PLC (from reasonable minds) has always been four years (even before there was a global pandemic that started ~8 months into Nelson being on the job). We are getting dangerously close to be competing for the PLC in Year 3. I'll take it! Go Cross Go (all sports)!!

Did Colgate just drop out of the PL ? There is a path to the 3 seed (or maybe even 2 seed if we get really lucky). 2/3 line means we wouldn't have to play Colgate until the Championship (if they aren't upset before then) -- they might beat us 8 times out of 10, but anything can happen in a single game.

If you believe in Ken Pomeroy's methodology (offensive and defensive efficiency) , here's how you might rank HC's performance in these last 5 games.
Lehigh (13.0) efficiency. HC wins at home (subtract 3) by 2 points= (14)= # 313 in Division 1 Boston U (3.0). HC wins by 5 on the road (add 3) = +5= #116 in D-1, an impressive win for sure Army (10.2) . HC wins on road by 4= (3) = #212 Colgate +2.8. HC loses by 27 on the road= (21)= # 351 Loyola (8.7) HC wins by 4 at home= (8)= # 264

I guess the "Brett Nelson inherited a dumpster fire" mantra is another effort to buy him a couple of more years before there are any expectations of posting a winning record. I mean, he did. Pretty sure Carmody had more recruits kicked out of school than recruits who graduated. Nelson therefore had to fill a roster quickly with kids out of high school and replace the many that didn’t care for Holy Cross (see the article where Joe P said he was not planning to stay for 4 years when he committed). You don’t win with frosh and sophomores. If Nelson has a losing record next year then very few (I think maybe even BBC) will have issues if he’s fired. The last few weeks have made me optimistic.

Did anyone kicked out have anything to do with the 2019-20 roster? Could be wrong, but I don't think so. Yup, Pridgen jumping ship can't be blamed on CBN, given JP's comments in his interview, but does anyone think he made those intentions known BEFORE he was offered a scholarship? Green and Grandison leaving also can't be blamed on CBN....nor the former coach. I give CBN a lot of credit with bringing in guys who fit his style. That doesn't mean the other guys couldn't play; some have been proving otherwise at other schools. I also give CBN and the team credit for dealing with not having their starting point guard. That's a pretty big deal in my mind. Having said all that, I think SoV was spot on when he referred to the 2018-2019 team's non conference earlier. Playing with several of the players CBN inherited (granted not JF), they played some pretty decent ball till they got to the PL. Hopefully, the current team will not have to deal with the off the court tragedy that the 18-19 team did while they are here. I am crossing my fingers. If there was a season for another magical run, this might be the year. BBC, I just hope if by some chance it does happen, you won't be offended if some refer to it as a fluke.

I totally agree with the second paragraph. We started this season with one kid (Gates) with a full year of D-I college ball under their belts. I knew this season wasn't going to be pretty. I didn't think zero D-I OOC wins, but the no experience squad isn't going to be successful. It takes upper class leadership to win at this level. I am hopeful we see that in the very near future The first paragraph, not so much. Yes, there were three Carmody recruits kicked off the team (FYI - that is fewer than Carmody recruits who graduated). Everyone of those scholarships was replaced. That has nothing to do with quickly needing to fill a roster. Two pretty good kids bailed between the time Coach Carmody's retired and Coach Nelson was hired. That had way more effect than events 2 or 3 years prior. He scrambled to fill one of those two spots with a high school kid. Also, one of his 11 inherited scholarship players was basically always injured. That is the situation he inherited. The need to quickly go out and get high school kids is a function of eight of his first year scholarship players (7 inherited and 1 his recruit) quitting on him, not discipline issues with his predecessor.

Colgate scored 100 last night vs. Army and Keegan Records scored zero points. He played 24 minutes and didn't take a shot from the floor or the line. Colgate was 15-31 from deep.

Colgate had 24 assists in the game; 6 were from their big guys who totaled 39 minutes (Records & Woodward). Woodward scored 8 points.
I'm sure there were a lot of balls dropped into the low post; Army's defense collapsed to help out their bigs (who are pretty immobile); and they pushed the ball back out for a 3 ball attempt; which they're damn good at making.
