No targets on second drive. Not sure if he was on the field. He might be done for the day as some guys deeper down the depth chart were involved in the second drive.

Apparently the incompletion to Kalif on the first drive was a pass into double coverage in the end zone.

USA Today roster projection after 1 preseason game. Wide receiver (6) In: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Josh Reynolds, DJ Chark, Kalif Raymond, Trinity Benson, Tom Kennedy Out: Quintez Cephus, Kalil Pimpleton, Josh Johnson, Maurice Alexander NFI: Jameson Williams There’s little doubt that Dan Campbell and his staff would keep all of these players on the roster if they could. Against Atlanta, Tom Kennedy was both Boyle and Blough’s go-to guy and racked up eight receptions for 104 yards in the process. Simply being healthy and available gives him priority over Quintez Cephus, who did not play in Friday’s preseason game. Trinity Benson has done just enough to warrant a spot on the 53-man roster. He seems to have the edge over Igwebuike in the aforementioned kick return completion and had an impressive 24-yard catch against Atlanta. Updated after this week’s game. Kalif still in the same spot with no apparent risk of being cut. Tom Kennedy has been great in the first two games and moved above the cut line. Seems like the team will keep two of Kennedy, Cephus and Benson. Maurice Alexander has been a very good kick returner but apparently does little else. Wide receiver (6) Starters: Amon-Ra St. Brown, DJ Chark, Josh Reynolds Reserves: Kalif Raymond, Quintez Cephus, Tom Kennedy PUP: Jameson Williams Out: Trinity Benson, Maurice Alexander, Kalil Pimpleton Change: Kennedy IN, Benson OUT

A simple gesture but what a classy move by Kalif. Those kids will remember this for decades for sure

In today’s Detroit News. Justin Rogers ranks the 80 Lions rostered players in five categories from “Locks” to “Long Shots” in terms of making the final 53 man roster. Good news for the Crusader (and Lion) faithful…Kalif is on the list of “Locks”.

Just curious, has Kalif been on this year's "Hard Knocks" on HBO at all? Haven't watched yet.

I saw the first two episodes and there were just a couple of glimpses of him. In the 2nd episode, towards the end, there's a practice huddle and one of the players (don't recall who but presumably a captain), all of whom have their fists up, is shouting the usual obscenity words of encouragement and it appeared that Kalif was next to him but not a clear view as someone was between him and the camera. This show focuses on just 2 or 3 players and Kalif wasn't one of them (and Dan Campbell, the coach). They really focused on a D-lineman rookie from Michigan and another rookie linebacker who, from memory was an undrafted free agent but the coaches love ("Rodrigo" as the coaches dubbed him). Both names escape me because, as you might imagine, I was scanning more for Kalif.

The usual iPhone picture instruction: Click on to enlarge the picture and correct the orientation. These are from the HBO "Hard Knocks" show of the Lions training camp. These are from episode 3 and the first time Kalif had any air time (measured in seconds). The first picture was him running off the field after the Lions beat the Colts by a point on a missed 2 point conversion with about 30 seconds left in the pre-season game. No shots of Kalif in that game. The second picture was earlier in the show during a skit by a comedian entertaining the players.

Sader1970. The d-lineman is Aidan Hutchinson from Michigan (who coincidentally went to the same grade school, HS and college as my son…albeit 30 yrs. later). The other featured player is Malcolm Rodriguez, a linebacker and sixth round pick from Oklahoma State, whom the coaches seem to love and whom they have nicknamed “Rodrigo”. Has a good chance to make the 53 man roster and perhaps start. I have been disappointed that Kalif has not gotten much notice. Perhaps he will in the last two episodes.

No change to USA Today’s view of Kalif as a roster lock as the fourth WR:
We’re not sure if the Lions will carry six or seven wide receivers on the initial 53-man roster. Technically they could carry just five with the expected midseason return of first-round rookie Jameson Williams, though that seems unlikely.
So the first battle is the spot itself. How many WRs do the Lions keep after the established top four of Amon-Ra St. Brown, DJ Chark, Josh Reynolds and Kalif Raymond? When healthy, Quintez Cephus is an easy shoo-in for one of the spots, but he’s missed quite a bit of time this summer and has a lengthy injury history.
Preseason hero Tom Kennedy has made a strong case for himself in the exhibition season. So has former USFLer Maurice Alexander, who has thrived as a return specialist. Trinity Benson has had a solid camp and has the ability to play both inside and outside and is an asset on special teams

Only bad part for Kalif about being a roster lock for the first time in his career as camp winds down is that he’s not going to be a compelling story for Hard Knocks to feature.

Interesting to see the different approaches teams have taken to this preseason. Lions and Steelers are treating today more like a real game and plan to play their starters for most or all of the first half. While not an offensive starter, I expect Kalif be done at halftime with the possible exception of punt returns if he doesn’t get enough in the first half.

Watched about 60% of the Lions’ game today. Kalif had one punt return for -1 yds. Spun away from the original tackle at Lions’ 45 yd. line and was tackled at the 44. As far as I could tell, did not appear in the game before or after that as a wide receiver. The game box score shows him with no targets and no catches which is consistent with what I saw (or didn’t see) in the time I was watching.
Don’t know what to think at this point. He has a 2 yr. contract and has seemed to be a player that Dan Campbell trusts. However, his PT in the pre-season has been limited…more so than I thought it would be, particularly today.
Hopefully, he’ll be the “lock” that he was projected to be and dressed and ready to go at Ford Field for the season opener.

It was a little weird that he didn’t play a single snap of offense as far as I could tell. I think he’s going to be the starting punt returner and a backup WR. Because he is not a starting WR, he did not get any run with them yesterday. Then they quickly converted to the WRs fighting for a roster spot in the second quarter. He’s not one of those either.

Per Detroit News, it’s official. Kalif makes the Lions’ 53 man roster. HC football starting the week on a high note. Let’s beat Merrimack on Friday to end it that way.

Good news. Their first round pick is currently on IL so they’ll have 6 when he comes back. Guess they didn’t want to take any injury chances with Kalif in the final preseason game if they were only planning on keeping 5. They also got the starting WRs (St Brown, Chark and Reynolds) out more quickly than they had previously said they would, likely for the same reason.

The Lions cut both guys who were thought to be competing for the kick returner job. There’s a chance Kalif will be adding kick returner to his job responsibilities for Week 1.

Just finished watching "Hard Knocks." Kalif more air time but always in the background. Again, they are zeroing in on 4-5 players that have been on the bubble or rookies. In a way, it's good they aren't focusing on him.
