Watched the game after the early am return trip from western NY. IMO, neither of the targets to Kalif was a catchable ball…unlike a number of others dropped by Lions’ “first string” receivers.
As for Goff, he had a terrible start to the game…3 for 9 for 6 yds. at one point in the first half with a pick six. He picked it up in the second half but it was too little and too late.

Kalif played 8 of 69 offensive snaps last night. St. Brown, Chark and Reynolds played 55-61 snaps each. Quintez Cephus played 2.

52-yard kick return for Kalif following a Lions safety. Set them up on the Commanders’ 30 and they scored shortly thereafter. 15-0 Lions.

Kalif only had 6 offensive snaps after 8 last week. Per the notes, some reason for optimism going forward.
Wide receivers
Amon-Ra St. Brown: 52 (85%) — 1 (3%) Josh Reynolds: 44 (72%) — 1 (3%) DJ Chark: 40 (66%) Quintez Cephus: 6 (10%) — 15 (47%) Kalif Raymond: 6 (10%) — 8 (25%)
St. Brown continues to lead the way in snaps among wide receivers, and he continues to warrant every single one of those. It may be surprising to see Chark have such a limited involvement, but it’s clear he’s still finding his way in this offense and developing chemistry with Goff.
That said, kudos to both Quintez Cephus and Kalif Raymond for making the most of their opportunities. Cephus not only had a key block on St. Brown’s huge end around but tallied two special teams tackles, as well. Raymond’s big punt return sparked Detroit’s first touchdown drive. Both got a shoutout from coach Dan Campbell after the game, which could warrant more playing time down the line.

Former HC assistant Dave Fipp and Kalif both getting some love in this blurb from USA Today:
It takes some real superlative play for the special teams to earn their own segment of a film review, especially in a game where the Lions didn’t have a return score or a blocked kick. But special teams coach Dave Fipp had his units performing extremely well in all facets of the punt and kick teams.
The word that comes to mind is “tight”. As in, what a tightly run ship. A great example was the excellent free kick return by Kalif Raymond after the Lions recorded a safety in the first quarter. Raymond netted 53 yards on the return, but it wasn’t just the speedy wideout who made it happen. Anthony Pittman, Juju Hughes, Malcolm Rodriguez and Chase Lucas all had stellar one-on-one blocks to give Raymond a clear running lane. It was a perfectly coordinated series of blocks.

They are the Lions, but I think this Coach might have the right approach to stress the importance of culture as a way to build team chemistry and accountability
Hope it continues to be a nice year for Kaliff and the Lions

Hard to understand with his success as a long ball receiver last year that he has been so underused this one

Kalif got a few more offensive snaps than usual yesterday. Amon-Ra tweaked his ankle during the game, which may have gotten Kalif a few extra reps.
DJ Chark: (62) 79% Josh Reynolds: (62) 79% Amon-Ra St. Brown: (57) 73% Kalif Raymond: (13) 17% -- Three special teams snap (11%) Quintez Cephus: (10) 13% -- 11 special teams snaps (39%)

I just got a ticket solicitation for among other things the Detroit Lions playing the Pats on October 9 at 1:00 pm at Gillette. Not planning on going but nice to know Kalif will be returning to New England.

Root for Kalif to do really well, scoring 3 TDs, but the Lions losing 24-21.

Amon-Ra St Brown is out this week so Kalif should have an expanded role in the offense. Both St. Brown and Josh Reynolds, two of the 3 Lion starting receivers, have sprained ankles with St. Brown’s being the more severe. As of today, both are questionable for Sunday’s game. It’s possible, though unlikely, that they both play. In any event, I would expect Kalif and Quintez Cephus to get more snaps than they have in the first 3 games.

hc92 Thanks for the update. I saw that St. Brown was confirmed as “out” after my post. Good news for Kalif’s chances to get more snaps. With St. Brown and Swift out, not so good news for the Lions’ chances.
