FCS blue- chippers (necessary on FCS championship contender teams) are hard to come by and jump off the page/field when you see them.
The FCS dream is to bring in a young schollie FBS transfer kid buried on the depth chart but we just don’t see that at HC. We just don’t. So the portal for incoming kids is essentially irrelevant to HC.
As an alternative dream we land a talented blue chip frosh who for one wacky (injury, other sport, etc) reason or another gets kinda overlooked by the better FBS schools. And immediately starts and excels. We have two: Dobbs and Sluka.
Sometimes (rarely) a late bloomer excels his 4th and 5th year and becomes a blue chipper/potential draftee.
Enough of those blue chip kids surrounded by good FCS kids and were off to the races.

MJ Wright has entered the portal from Fordham. He has one year left. Might be looking at schools with grad programs.

Notre Dame QB Drew Pyne into the transfer portal.
Doesn’t have the size and ability to play at the top level of D1, and IMO an HC would be the perfect fit for him if our starting job was open.

The Pyne from Milford who was at BC is more likely to end up at HC than this Pyne, not that I think the former Pyne is that likely to end up here.

The clock is ticking at Lehigh to get a coach in there - 14 have entered the portal so far including their touted frosh QB, Silbor - he was slotted in as the likely starter in '23

Fordham OC would have been a nice move.

Any prospective coach is going to ask 'what are the changes/investments here that will get us to the HC level?', and when there's no answer he heads for the door

According to the @on3sports transfer portal wire, as of this afternoon 764 FBS players have already entered the portal.
If we use last year’s stats as a comparison, less than 250 will eventually find a new home. This is crazy…

But isn't this a little like someone who is not enamored with his job or boss and sending out his/her resume to see if there is something better out there? Lots of times you find out the grass isn't really greener in the other fella's yard. Or, the guy doesn't want you on his grass.

You really don't want to waste time getting in to the portal (once you're knocked out of the playoffs) so a bunch more early this week from HC would not be a surprise. There is one HC name I really really don't want to see in the portal. Any other name I can live with and certainly wish all graduating seniors that depart with a year (or two) of eligibility all the best and thank them for all they've done on the hill.
