I doubt Pres. Rougeau would listen to Pitino, but if we hired him, the justifiable negative publicity would diminish the positive press Chesney has given us It would be worse than Xavier has gotten from the Sean Miller hire, also all justifiable PItino’s character is the direct opposite of Chesney.

Any of these men would be great! Forego hiring the search consultant and put the fee saved towards assistant coaches‘ salaries. Might also add Ryan Cain from who has been pretty successful in 6 years at Keene State. Not sure he's as strong a candidate as some of the others listed above with no Division I or high academic liberal arts experience, but as a Webster, MA native, St. John's and WPI alumnus and WPI Assistant, he's familiar with Worcester. keeneowls.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/ryan-cain/714

Guys, while I know I've been among the worst offenders so maybe the teapot calling the kettle black here, but maybe in the Christmas spirit we should refrain from discussion and speculation about Coach Nelson leaving and potential successors.
If you can't refrain in the spirit of the holidays, really, what more could be added at this time that can't be posted after the New Year which will also have a better focus on the trendline of the season.
At least I'm going to try. I hope others will as well.
Peace.

Anybody who would object to Rick Pitino being hired is either out of their mind or is a person who has never sinned and is incapable of forgiveness. He is EXACTLY what this program needs right now.

I made a formal request to the Vatican earlier this week for a mass to be said for those that love the Jesuit mission and the complete Holy Cross experience. My guess is it will be included in the next two weeks and will keep you posted.
For those of you or your family and friends interested in supporting the Gregorian please let me know by pm

Mike Brey announced his retirement at the end of this season. SK no doubt a top candidate for the job. Getting down to reality, one coach I could see them pursuing is Porter Moser, who is from the Chicago area and obviously was highly successful at a Chicago-area Catholic school. He has a good job at Oklahoma, but ND might be able to lure him to South Bend. depending on how big the buyout is. Another possible choice is also at Oklahoma: Ryan Humphrey. Humphrey was a star player for ND and then a long-time assistant under Brey.

Returning, be it ever so briefly, to the original reason for this thread . . .
Chesapeake CC (Andy Sachs), now 15-3 - has reeled off ten straight wins and is picking up Top 25 votes in the NJCAA polls. Christopher Newport (John Krikorian), 17-3, currently ranked #5 in D3. Swarthmore (Landry Kosmalski), 15-1. Has moved up steadily in the D3 poll to #10 and has won its last twelve straight. Johns Hopkins (Josh Loeffler), 13-3. Ranked 13th.
Carry on.

i would love any of these coaches. all four would be a dramatic upgrade, it would seem feasible to come to hc, and their hire would restore my ever-waning enthusiasm for our program.

Wonder who Kit's basketball contacts are. In football, after reading the Holy Cross Magazine article, no question he'd turn to Tom O'Brien if he thought he needed some advice on someone.
In any case, hope he's discreetly putting some kind of list together. We're screwed even more than we are now if the first week of March, the search is starting from ground zero (and even more so if some professional search firm is brought in).
(edit)- Moser might have a price tag out of ND's market. I think basketball means more to Oklahoma than it means to Notre Dame, not that football doesn't cast a huge shadow over both schools.

Let’s play “ One of these things is not like the other “. Imagine the headlines: Wife and hoops cheater to coach at the country’s leading CATHOLIC university. I'm sure there's a name or two on this list that is a good source for the writer and little else. Happens all the time w/these sort of articles. At least he didn't carry the search one step further, which happens a lot also. You know "Well, ND is going to hire Coach 1 from School B; so School B will turn around and hire Coach 2 from School C..." The coaching domino theory.
