I do find it at least a bit premature to debate the process for filling an opening that does not, as yet, exist. While the topic gives people something to talk about, this is the reality.

I do find it at least a bit premature to debate the process for filling an opening that does not, as yet, exist. 1. we like to be "ahead of the curve" here 2. when/if an opening happens, it will happen suddenly and without warning, so we just want to be prepared (even though none of us on here will be involved in the process - just interested bystanders).

Thanks for the very appropriate explanation. I find it a bit disconcerting to simultaneously read about how a very successful PL coach did not really start his string of successful seasons until after 6 most disappointing ones while hearing how we need to get rid of a coach whose team seems too be developing through the year. Might have a future upside that we have not yet seen? It is a bit troubling. However, I realize that some really enjoy the discussions of future moves by HC and I have no issue with that. Thanks again.

Heck, if I knew anything, I'd be the coach or, maybe, the AD.

Will Ryan just got canned at Wisconsin Green Bay. 15-61 record there. There was a link in the HoopDirt article to a story about his contract. His base salary was $175,000 and the many incentives included 5,000 for: a Horizon League reg season title, an HL tourney title, a jump of 5% in gross tickets sold over prior year, a team gpa of 2.75, an NIT bid. 10,000 for making the Big Dance, winning the NIT. I believe 15,000 for making the Sweet Sixteen. Interesting assuming the story was correct. Oh, the contract was for six years when hired. I think he was in year 3. Sounds right based on 76 games.

Will he still get paid his base salary for the next 3 years?

How many different head coaches for Ryan Wade during his collegiate career? Believe this is his fourth. All the teams he has been part of have been terrible.
2019-20. Holy Cross, 3-29 2020-21. Holy Cross, 5-11 2021-22. C. Michigan, 7-23 2022-23. Green Bay, 2-19 (in progress)

Meanwhile, E. Michigan picked up Emoni Bates (I guess indirectly he replaced Druzi), the guy's had some incredible games (last night scored 43 points for his team, 29 of his team's points in a row)...and they are something like 4-19.

Might have a future upside that we have not yet seen? It is a bit troubling. However, I realize that some really enjoy the discussions of future moves by HC and I have no issue with that. I think that characterization is a bit misleading. Langel inherited a really bad team, but by his third year (2014) they had their best ranking (Pomeroy) since the days of Adonal Foyle. In his fourth year, the team finished PL play with a 12-6 record - their best record since Foyle and their first time over .500 since 2003. In his fifth and sixth seasons, they fell back a bit - but were still much better than Colgate was in the three years prior to Langel's arrival. Also those sub-par years were still light years better than the best teams CBN has had at HC. Here are Colgate's rankings in the three years prior to Langel and then his first nine years: 2009 . 309 2010 . 290 2011 . 314 - - - - - - - - - 2012 . 324 2013 . 269 2014 . 184 2015 . 180 2016 . 256 2017 . 268 2018 . 202 2019 . 126 2020 . 118 For comparison, here are the HC rankings for CBN's four seasons: 2020 . 344 2021 . 304 2022 . 349 2023 . 332 In fairness, it must be noted that there were about 350 teams during Langel's earlier years and recently there have been 357-360 teams, so if you want, bump up Nelson's rankings slightly. One notable item is that CBN's third and fourth seasons have produced an average ranking of 340.5. Langel's third and fourth seasons averaged 182.

Good post, 137. What we wouldn’t give to be in the 180s as Langel was in his third and fourth years. We might have finished that high once since RW left.

Fordham is currently 18-5 (6-4 in A10) and ranked 147th by Pomeroy -- if they were to finish the season ranked here, it would be their highest ranking since 2006-07.
Dave Paulsen was a special advisor to Kyle Neptune last season (when they went 16-16, 8-10) and is an assistant coach this year under Keith Urgo.
We could do a lot worse than him.

One thing about Paulsen is that most of the credit for the top recruits he brought in at Bucknell went to his two long time assistants: Dane Fischer and Aaron Kelly. Unlikely either of them would be coming with him to a new job. Also he turns 59 late this summer, which some people might find to be an issue.

Dane Fischer might be looking for a job after this season.
The stars are aligning for him and Paulsen reuniting in Worcester!

In a long article in The Athletic in Jordan Soerber, I came across what may be a new name, Scott Davenport from Bellarmine. Had Ky75 mentioned him ? If so, I apologize
Sperber presents the Bellarmine University offense, a kinetic orchestra of passing and cutting and moving and more passing. Coach Scott Davenport long ago turned Bellarmine into a Division II power with the system and has produced similar success at the DI level. On the surface, Sperber’s video breakdown is a quirky look at an unknown school running a weird offense. Tailor-made YouTube content.
But 2 million views don’t just happen. The video is so good because of its construct. The premise is in analytics. Bellarmine is an outlier, Sperber explains, ranking as one of the top-15 most efficient offenses in points per game, despite using the fewest ball screens, by far. The data is deeply nerdy, but highly consumable. So, too, are the Xs and Os that back it up. Sperber doesn’t explain only what Bellarmine is doing, but how. Animated plays are diagrammed and decoded. You’re in the film room.

Scotty Davenport is a very well respected coach here in the Ville. He coached Ballard High School which has produced some NBA players and was an assistant at U of L. He then moved to Bellarmine Collrge ( now a U) which became a D2 power including winning a national championship. Bellarmine moved to D1 a year or two ago and had been successful including winning a conference championship but being ineligible to go to The Dance. I know a guy who played for him on NCAA champ team and has nothing but good things to say about him. Same for everyone else herein town.

If we got someone from Bellarmine (assistant, probably); can he bring the logo with him?
