The "truth" can often be uncomfortable, but I never hate it. Some of your posts are simply annoying. For example, were we "looking up" at Lehigh when we were edged by 3 points in the first game and we pounded them in the second game, winning by 16, this past season? Facts can be annoying, but please don't hate them. Perhaps you could base your observations on them from time to time.

To judge us in relation to one spring basketball win is laughable. Lehigh better'n us across the board.

Lehigh isn't better "across the board".
Isn't a person here (event amongst the disgruntled set) who would take their coaching staff over HC's given the choice.

To judge us in relation to one spring basketball win is laughable. Lehigh better'n us across the board. Looking at my mention of TWO winter basketball games and somehow seeing that as a single spring basketball game is truly "laughable" (your word). It may explain your original post - you make up facts to suit your prejudice - and why some folks find this lack of logic annoying.

You mean you want credit for a loss?

You mean you want credit for a loss? A loss by 3 in the closing minute hardly indicates a difference between teams where one is said to be "looking up" at the other. Do you mean you really don't understand that?

i would be shocked if ewing doesn't fail.
this isn't the nba. contrary to a previous post, strategy, x's and o's, etc. matter in the college game.
the guy has never been a head coach at any level and never struck me as being terribly bright. he's in over his head and probably in the wrong pool (better suited to the nba) anyway.
there is no way ewing gets a job like this if john thompson wasn't still looming large at georgetown. personally, i will enjoy watching both fail.

Don't generalize or anything. How you can judge whether someone you've never had any encounter with isn't bright is your special gift, I guess. Of course Xs and Os matter. They matter in the NBA, too--much more so than in college, given the much greater talent level in the pros, the much shorter shot clock, the much longer schedule, the much more sophisticated defenses, the much more difficult playoff structure, etc. Perhaps Ewing was just staring blankly ahead during timeouts, practices, film sessions, doing advance scouting for the Rockets and Hornets and such during his last 30 years as a player and assistant coach, but I'm figuring he was paying a little bit of attention and will X and O just fine. Ewing wouldn't have gotten this job if Brey, Smart and Mack hadn't all turned it down first. So Thompson, Jr.'s influence wasn't as vast or as encompassing as you seem to believe. Once their top three choices--none connected to Thompson in any way--said no, why wouldn't Georgetown go after Ewing? Taking a college gig wasn't his first choice, either. (By the way, further eroding your stance that Thompson, Jr., was running the show: Notre Dame's Brey came up as a coach at DeMatha High in Hyattsville--a school with whom Thompson, Jr.. feuded for decades, almost never recruiting players from that storied program because of his dislike--which was mutual--for DeMatha's Hall of Fame Coach, Morgan Wootten. There is no way John Thompson would ever recommend or want a DeMatha guy coaching Georgetown--ever.) As with every coach at every level of college basketball, Ewing's success will depend almost completely on his recruiting ability. Nothing else will matter.

I read on a GU board that there are four scollie players on the current roster. ____________________________ The thing about JT Jr., is that he apparently will remain a major presence, and I wouldn't think a 'name' coach would want to deal with it. It would be like Coach K retiring, then subsequently sitting on the sideline during games, attending practices, and going into the locker room at half-time.

St. John's hasn't had a first- or second-team all-Big East player, or even an honorable mention selection, in either of Mullin's first two seasons as head coach. Maybe he recruited some late bloomers.

2 St John's players made the all-freshman team this season both were unanimous selections. AU had two all-freshman team selections this season. Had the PL Rookie of the Year last year. Didn't do us a whole hell of a lot of good this year. Or St. John's.

If Big John Thompson really loved Georgetown he would leave the program alone and stay out of the coach's way--my opinion.

Well, we have several coaches who know offense and defense, which is exactly my point. It doesn't really matter if the players don't get better as upperclassmen. As for Ewing, of course he'll need solid assistants--who can recruit, X and O and handle the other myriad tasks of a staff. I don't think he's going to bring in volunteer coaches.

St. John's hired almost all recruiters only--none volunteers ewing should avoid that.

Have you seen St. John's the last 2 seasons. Almost every game they play, Mullin is outcoached, so some coaches are doing effective in game coaching. Check out Virginia and Wisconsin. Not your highest level, but Did you see any Lehigh games ? Reed lost many coaching matchups.
