I am just a casual Bowl game watcher, but yesterday drew me in. I have to say, both of the games were off the charts great matchups. Michigan had a complete game and looked solid against Alabama. Washington - Texas may have been a little late for you East Coast guys to stick with, but the Huskies also played at a consistent, high level. Both games went down to the final play. The Washington QB was unbelievably mobile in the pocket while being accurate on those long throws, time after time. The game next Monday night should be a heck of a tilt. The Selection Committee got it right, despite all the heat....hard to top 2 games going down to the last play...... but ZERO reason for the 2nd game ending @ 12:50 AM EDTOne reason was that the first game went into OT. The start of the 2nd game was delayed because of this.

Absolutely. JMU player didn't have the mobility to avoid the AF pressure that Matt would have been able to get away from. I also suspect our OL would have done better than JMU's did. Might be my purple glasses. That said, while Army beat AFA by more than they did against us, from memory that was because AFA had a Harvard-type multiple turnovers game against West Point (5 or 6 to 0?). Definitely purple-tinted glasses to some extent. JMU QB was Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year. I'm a believer that continuity at QB, if you have a good one, is a huge factor when it comes to success. If I'm Chesney, I'm fighting to get the incumbent back. Same logic applies across the board -- I wouldn't have traded Sluka at HC this year for any college QB, and even a few current NFL QBs. He was our guy and our entire offensive scheme was based around his abilities. That being said, I have a hunch that if JMU ultimately loses their QB, that Sluka will be signed soon after. If he hasn't signed somewhere else by that point.

No, the reason is that the Rose Bowl runs the show.....the game is played @ 2:15 PM PDT or it doesn't get played at all..... we have to have the sunset over the San Gabriel Mountains in the second half and the aerial shots of same....And, we have to have the trophy ceremony televised regardless of how late the game ran.........ESPN kneels at the altar of the Rose Bowl...Ridiculous....It rivals the Butler Cabin Ceremony after the Masters........

The Rose Bowl HAS been played at night before. At least 2 that I remember Miami-Nebraska in 2002 (also the first Rose Bowl in 50+ years that eschewed the traditional BiG-Pac matchup) and Texas-USC in 2005. But you're right, thats 100% the reason. Conventional wisdom also would've had Alabama-Michigan as the obvious prime time matchup. The Fiesta Bowl being played at 11am local time was also strange, but I suppose the only real option this year.
