It would almost be weird, at this point, if Villanova doesn't leave the CAA for the PL.

My first question is -- What happens to the New England CAA schools? I just can't imagine Maine, UNH, and URI (and Bryant, for that matter...although this is probably a better situation for them than the Big South was) are happy with these developments. I would think the CAA football officially or implicitly breaks into North and South Divisions. I’m also assuming Nova follows Richmond to the PL in 2025. North - Maine, Albany, URI, UNH, Bryant, Stony Brook, Monmouth
South - Towson, W&M, Hampton, Campbell, NC A&T, Elon Play each team from your division every year and rotate 2 from opposite division. Be cool if they could swing a Championship game but FCS calendar makes Conf Championship games virtually impossible. Sacred Heart and Merrimack are currently homeless, right? Take these two and have these northern teams secede from the CAA and you've got a decent league.

It shouldn't be overlooked that Richmond's AD, John Hardt, was the Bucknell AD for nearly 20 years.

Apparently, the SoCon wanted Richmond, too.
Richmond chose the PL.
I'm convinced they will not be the only CAA school that ventures over to the PL...

BIG NEWS!
I've been beating this drum for a while about the CAA getting totally watered down with some skeptical additions in recent years.
Welcome, Spiders! Richmond is a great town and looking forward to catching a road game there soon.

Padres - Reds the toughest of the nine squares today for me.

Not sure why that would matter. Wang is hitting .280 and has ten home runs against ACC pitching. Mudd has thrown 25 innings with those numbers against ACC hitting. Only 11 of Mudd's innings were against ACC hitting. And eight innings against Big Ten (Ohio St and Maryland).

BC and Pitt have the worst ACC records at 8-19 The next worst is ND at 9-18 - it’s not a coincidence that the 3 northern tier schools have the worst records - spring sports (even those funded with schollies) often have a tough time BC and ND have been decent in recent years though. ND went to the CWS in 2022 and Super Regionals in 2021. BC made the tournament last year as an at-large. Pitt hasn't gone to the tournament in nearly 30 years.

Just clicked over to the BC baseball stats for this year. Nick Wang one of their top three hitters and Tyler Mudd with a very impressive 3.20 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Imagine if we had both of these guys on the roster? Too bad. That would be last place Boston College. Not sure why that would matter. Wang is hitting .280 and has ten home runs against ACC pitching. Mudd has thrown 25 innings with those numbers against ACC hitting.

Thinking more about the 2024-25 OOC slate.
Last year we had 12 D1 OOC games, which included an MTE (three games). For argument's sake, let's assume there will be 12 D1 games we are looking to fill. Here's an educated guess at the schools we'll see in the OOC:
Harvard - This is an absolute lock. Couldn't tell you the last time they weren't on the OOC schedule.
Siena - played them each of the last six years (not including corona year). Guessing they're back in the mix.
Maine - Likely owe them a return game.
CCSU - I think we'll get a return game.
Quinnipiac - Likely owe them a return game.
Sacred Heart - Always a staple. They've been on every OOC schedule (with the exception of one) dating back to 2007-08.
UMass - Bit of a guess here. Ran into Frank Martin at Logan a week or so ago, and he mentioned wanting to get something going with HC. He mentioned being friendly with HCDP.
I'd expect three buy-games, given that we had three last year (BC, St. John's, Georgetown). Could see the BC game turning into a semi-regular game.

I could only think of one player for the MIL/SEA box, and he popped into my head right away. Slap-hitting 3B who played in the 90's and early 2000's. Also spent some time with the Rockies where not surprisingly I'm pretty sure he had his best offensive season. Another player who COULD be right is a guy who had a 4-homer game. I went with a tall and lean power hitting 1B for Seattle and Milwaukee.

Macchiarola ate up a bunch of innings, despite giving up seven runs today.
Good news is that our bullpen is very well rested.
It'll be Wywoda, Lemond, and Needham looking to get 27 outs.

Really nice job Bryant settling into the game after a five run first to give our guys a chance to get back in the game.
Also saves our bullpen, which is a plus.
