Then there's what Calipari's new approach is. Have 8 or 9 scholarship players on your team, the remainder walk-ons. Augment that with a few grad assistants for additional practice players. His reasoning is that's all he can play in non-blowouts; the ones who get few minutes will likely move on; therefore, why develop (and pay the going rate for a SEC school) players for someone else's program? Only flaw in the argument I can see is; if you have 9; more than one simultaneous injury. This makes a lot of sense.

Tyler Grenn will start game one of the series for Navy.
He struggled against HC this season (4 innings, 6 earned runs).

172 today. Was very chalky. Michael A. Taylor was my bottom left. I was stuck on this was longer than any of the other eight boxes. Finally, Jose Guillen came to me.

The CAA isn't what it once was back when JMU, UMass, Delaware (when they were really good), UNH (when they were really good) were the elite class of the FCS. This is a watered down league with newcomers like Hampton, NC A&T, Bryant, Campbell joining.
It's not so far-fetched to think that the PL is more attractive -- received an at-large in recent seasons, some closer games against the three PA schools, more "natural" crossover for Nova alums (Lehigh, Bucknell, Lafayette, Fordham, Georgetown, Holy Cross vs. the preceding schools mentioned -- no brainer).

It would still probably be a one-bid league and 'Nova would get that bid. To put it in perspective, 'Nova has as many players currently in the NBA as the whole PL has had in its entire history (11). They're not leaving the BE. And for the longest time the PL only had one NBA player in its history (Foyle). We've had a nice flurry since about 2012, starting with McCollum. It has been a nice little run for our little league -- McCollum Muscala Ingram Miller Aldama

I presume that this move would be for football only. I cannot see Nova leaving the Big East, especially for hoops. I actually heard Kyle Neptune wants to return to his PL roots and bring Nova into the league in hoops as well. Might be a better level for him.

Immaculate Grid is fun and can be very humbling. To nycrusader2010, you'd be surprised at the random stats this proves you think you know, but you don't. Nolan Ryan never won a Cy Young award. Tons of fantastic players never got 200 hits in a season, even in their MVP, like Goldschmidt and Votto. And WAR can really mess with ya when you're aiming for the 6+ seasons. I haven't played in a while, but when I was playing regularly and got really stumped, you realize just how many teams guys like Edwin Jackson, Oliver Perez, Octavio Dotel, Rich Hill, Matt Stairs, Bartolo Colon, Fernando Rodney, etc. played for. Always a decent chance you'd get lucky when using them.

Older than Daigneault. This is awesome news. His name had been thrown around for the Bucks job recently, AIR. Wonder what his staff will look like. Ryan Frazier is a Bucknell alum, current assistant with New Orleans, and he overlapped with Lee on the Bucks' staff several years ago. Wouldn't be surprised if Lee hired him in Charlotte. DJ MacLeay is another Bucknell alum, who's an assistant with the Celtics. Maybe he takes on a bigger role in Charlotte with Lee.

You guys would love Immaculate Grid if you're not playing already. Got 8 today (which is good for me) and drawing a complete blank on the last one. I struggle with matching players who have played on two teams, especially when they are both National Leauge clubs although today it is someone who played for the Phillies and the Tigers. Placido Polanco jumped right out to me. Really need to get a hobby.

Not a fan of New England FCS regional play but for those that want it I guess it makes for a decent schedule I would prefer two mid majors each year and three or four out of region FCS opponents It takes two to tango and that becomes very costly playing opponents that require flights in the OOC. There are enough good CAA opponents regionally that we can round out a good schedule.

Ehh, this is starting to veer off what I was trying to avoid and just wanted confirmation that there would be no interruption of Holy Cross' graduation ceremonies.
Before the Dean "caps" this thread, since I was the author, I will try to put my thoughts on the broader subject . . . . . and then will seriously consider going back on hiatus. IMHO: 1. Hamas is a genuine terrorist organization and no need to look any further than what they did on 10/7 (we should not confuse Hamas with the broader Palestinian/Gazan people) 2. Israel has every right, in fact a duty, to protect its citizens and that means going after Hamas so that they never do this again 3. The Israeli government made obvious errors in judgement to have been able to prevent or mitigate the attack of 10/7 4. The Israeli government, not the Israeli people, is responsible for the slaughter of too many innocent Gazans with women and children being the greatest victims. Simply too many have been killed to be just "collateral damage." 5. Just as there were so many innocent Israeli victims on 10/7, there are many times more innocent Gazans killed by the IDF 6. Being against the Israeli government actions is NOT being anti-semitic. We should not conflate the two, 7. As much as people believe that because the USA is a strong ally with Israel that the US government can wave a magic wand and make Israel take actions or stop actions, we cannot. At best, we can try to influence what they do and that's what our government has been trying to do. 8. In that vein, yes, the hostages should be released immediately but we are neither holding the hostages nor have direct control of either party to the conflict. We cannot force a cease fire either because even if we convince Israel, we have little influence over Hamas. Two to tango. 9. Kudos to our government for withholding some offensive weapons that were to go to Israel. It might give the IDF some pause before a full scale attack on the last Gazan sanctuary area. 10. Maybe most importantly: THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR ANTI-SEMITISM. As for college campuses, being a student of the late 60's, many of us have seen, maybe participated in, college protests. Free speech on colleges should be encouraged. Violence, threats of violence and interfering with the free speech (not hate speech) and free passage of others should not be tolerated. Looking forward to HC graduation 2024! Did you really think this thread was going to stay exclusively focused on HC graduation ceremonies?

Mason Black, Lehigh grad and PL Pitcher of the Year in ‘21 became the 2nd PL grad to pitch in the majors this season last night when he started for the SF Giants vs. Phillies Was dealing through four innings and then a three-run bomb in the fifth ruined what was looking to be a quality start.

It'll be interesting to see how HCEK manages the pitching this weekend. As a reminder, all PLT games are nine-innings.
Our best three starters are Macchiarola, Wywoda and Bryant. Bryant had the best showing of the three against Navy (7 innings giving up one earned run).
LeMond, Needham, and Harnisch are the best guys out of the bullpen.
HCEK will use these six guys in some combination for the 27 innings (hopefully, for our sake, it's 18 innings).
Any guesses who gets the start in the first game? Bryant has started the first game in our PL weekend series. I'd venture to guess he gets the nod. The other advantage to starting our best guy in game one is that if he has a short outing, he could potentially turn around and pitch an inning or two on Sunday.
Question is whether HCEK brings Macchiarola or Wywoda out of the bullpen or not. Managing a best of three series is a lot different than a regular season weekend series (obviously).

After walking nine batters in his first eleven innings, Cronin hasn't issued a free pass in his last six innings (four games). Encouraging. It'll still go in the books as a BB, of course, but two of those nine walks were of the IBB variety in extras. Still, seven walks in 11 innings is too many. His WHIP is now down to a more respectable 1.35.

Another scoreless inning last night against the Dodgers.
DC is turning himself into an attractive candidate in the midst of Miami’s firesale.

Army is left out of the NCAA Tournament, despite finishing with an 11-3 record and good wins over Maryland and Syracuse, who were both at-large teams. They also had two losses to BU and lost to PL fifth place finisher Colgate. Army did NOT play Maryland this season and they only beat two NCAA teams in Syracuse and Lehigh. Right you are. They did beat UNC, but they were 7-7 this year.

Two thoughts: 1. Columbia will have an interim president by next fall.2. The accounts in the Synoptic Gospels are not easily defined as conservative or liberal. God does not belong to any political party. Northwestern not far behind.

The sad thing about what transpired at Columbia is that many of those who trespassed and broke into a building on campus were not even students, but rather professional protesters / agitators.

Take one game from Lafayette on Saturday and we're in the PLT.
Will be traveling to Annapolis, unless we take all four games this weekend and Army loses all four (not happening).
It would be a major accomplishment if we are able to finish the regular season at .500 -- in order to do so, need to take three of four against the L schools.
