There will be 500 people at the basketball game. Maybe 100 of them will have been at the football game. Not too worried about the migratory patterns of these rare birds. Overly optimistic. I think it will be closer to 250. Kind of like the night HC was hosting Brown ant there 13,000 people downtown at the Worcester Centrum watching #1 UMass play #3 Memphis.

Will be interesting to see how the play against D-3 team translates on Saturday. Pressure defense was very good but, again, how good was the opposition? Perhaps with the 3 with injuries back (yes, Rabs and Dorsey? out), Nelson may feel he has the depth to do full court defense more than in the past.
Our shooting still inconsistent. Defense has to create offense.

Will be interesting to see if Nelson can figure out a consistent role for Austin Lewis. He certainly has a nice stroke. He’s 4-9 on threes this year and looks very good shooting the ball.

He impressed me the little I saw in the open practice and he really looked good on his threes today as 92 said. Of course he was wide open when he stroked his 3s but we've had lots of players over the years who even when wide open couldn't hit a 3 with any consistency. We absolutely do need some consistent outside gunners.
If he could put on 30 pounds he'd be even more valuable. Believe we've already discussed that he's seems a little like "Alex Van der Bomb".

He has to figure out how to defend at the D-1 level...not physical enough to play inside, not quick enough to defend on the perimeter.. He would fit in well if HC went zone...he has to grow into a spot

There has to be a way to work him in for 12 min a game to show the opposition something different and have a guy out there who can knock down a couple of quick threes. SHU has found a role for Joey Riley and he’s a short guy who can’t defend at the D1 level.

Massey makes UNH a 5 point favorite (72-67) with a 63% chance for the win. At 37% he does give HC a chance.

Massey is more favorable than Pomeroy (28% chance), so we’ll go with him instead.

I too would love to see a little more from AL. I do understand that he has a lot of developing to do, but he just may have the best 3 point stroke on the team.
I like his potential. Hopefully someday the tables will be turned, and HE will be a match up problem for our peer opponents. He certainly doesn't look like a clod in regards to agility. Anyway, on to UNH, and Happy Thanksgiving all!

I think Austin Lewis has potential and I compare him to other 6-10 or 6-11 guys we've had, both their talent level and what their trajectory was as far as becoming real contributors. Setting aside Tim Clifford and Nate Lufkin who contributed a lot as freshmen, I look at Greg McCarthy, Matt Husek, Blake Verbeek, and Jack Stevens. I'll rate AL's talent level and potential as the top of that group, Surely he will benefit from weight training, but I think a lot of the basics are already in place- good shooting stroke as noted, mobility, can even handle the ball a bit.

I think AL is more comparable to Jim Narius and Tom Seaman.... I see similarities in his approach/style to Narius having watched Jim in a number of his HS games. The question I have about Lewis is how hard will he work to get better—which is something Jim did every day?

From the very limited time the AL has been on the floor, I have seen a very good upside regarding footwork and running the floor. Has a very nice stroke on his three point attempts and is to timid.
With maturation, both physical and basketball IQ, he can turn into a weapon to bust the zone, particularly with the opposition wings and forwards being forced to guard him.
It is way to early to make a definitive judgment, but so far, I like what I have seen. Time will tell. Let’s see if he is off the bench in the upcoming games.

Okay here's a challenge for the UNH game. We have been plagued by turnovers all this young season , yielding the ball to our opponents an unathomable number of times. However, new hampshire's defense stands at #357 of 358 D-1teams in creating turnovers. Can we hold our turnovers under 10 for this game?

Great question, but realistically I would say can we limit our to’s to 15 as most are unforced

On the other hand they only turn the ball over 6.7 times per game which places them second nationally behind only Villanova. HC is 345 in the country at eighteen per game.

HC is last in the country in assists per game at 6.3. I believe that is only based on D1 games. The number of times HC has ranked at the very bottom of D1 teams over the last 5-6 years in important stats like rebounding %, free throws per game, assist to turnovers, etc. is shocking. They support our record over that span.

After taking just 5 three pointers in his 53 games for UNO, Gerrale Gates had no three point attempts in his first 16n games as a Crusader. Then against Mt St Vincent he went 2 for 3 from beyond the arc. Was this just an anomaly--opportunities presenting themselves--or a change in how we plan to use this outstanding near-the-basket player? Might we see him launching versus UNH?
