#20 was Kevin Daley. I wasn’t sure either. I had to look it up. I think that is Gary Witts...His freshman season.. Garry Witts. Kevin Daley was class of ‘77.

I think that is Gary Witts...His freshman season.. 20 in the team picture is most definitely Garry (2 'r's) Witts. I was referring to the action picture from the BC game; that's from the year before; different unis, different player. Thank you for pointing out the two Rs. Witts’ first name is Garrett. One of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.

Garry Witts only played 46 games in the NBA. But he shot at a 58.3% fg clip in the league. The current HC team shoots free throws at a 64% rate.

Top and bottom pics are from ‘76-‘77 when HC won the ECAC New England tournament and played Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Middle pic is from ‘77-‘78. Note that the unis changed. Who was #20, by the way? Jim Dee prior to 76-77, that I'm sure of. NCAA tournament game was @ Indiana University, and believe or not, Bobby Knight walked into the Michigan locker room and gave a pre-game pep talk to his arch rivals.......we were leading in that game with 5 minutes left and I don't believe Ronnie Perry played because of a sprained ankle...... Michigan was later denied a trip to the Final Four by Cedric Maxwell's UNCC team

O’Connor had a monster game in the Colonial Classic early in the season at Boston Garden vs UMass. I think he had 21 points and 22 rebounds. Sadly he tore his Achilles not long thereafter vs Assumption.

Neither did John O’Connor In his post game comments, Bryant Gumbel said “This game was a story of two guards…one who was here and one who wasn’t”. Rickey Green was the “one who was here” with 30+ points and, of course, RP was “the one who wasn’t”. The HC frontcourt with Potter, Vicens and Charlie Browne outscored the Michigan frontline by a wide margin (65-37 I think) but Green and Steve Grote outscored our backcourt by an even greater margin. Have always wondered what the result would have been if O’Connor and Perry (in their pre-injury form) had been able to play.

And their frontcourt was led by All America and future pro, Phil Hubbard, whom Mike V.’s dunk posterized on one of, if not the first HC possession of the game.

Ahhh, this thread took a HUGE u-turn from playing a D3 team to all-time great Crusader basketball players and NCAA tournament games and opponents.
This used to be called “a bull session” at Holy Cross. 😊

"You mean they have no black starters? None?"

I didn't notice . . . . were there any black starters on the Elms? (He noted trying desperately to get this back onto the original thread subject).

I think that is Gary Witts...His freshman season.. Garry Witts. Kevin Daley was class of ‘77. The picture of the bench is from the 76-77 season. #34 is Kevin McAuley who was a senior that year. I have the team picture and roster from 76-77 and #20 is Kevin Daley. Gary Witts, who also wore #20, was a freshman on the 77-78 team. I hope this clears up this terrible dilemma. 😀

Stand for City College of NY Yes, but at one point it was this (source: www.ccny.cuny.edu/about/history) In 1866, the Free Academy, a men's institution, was renamed the College of the City of New York. In 1867 the academic senate, the first student government in the nation, was formed. General Alexander S. Webb, one of the Union's heroes at the battle of Gettysburg, also presided over the College in the 19th century.
