According to the Portal Report, 25 schools including Colgate, have reached out to Campbell and 20 including BC, have contacted Felder, the pg from Malden Catholic. No mention of HC. Almost 10 high academics have contacted Campbell.

Holy Cross Job Posting for Men's Head basketball coach is out and for all of you wonder what search firm KH is using, send your resume to crusadermbbsearch@holycross.eduNo Parker Executive Search firm retained to help with the search! Way to go ADKH and/or PVR! holycross.interviewexchange.com/jobofferdetails.jsp?JOBID=160005A few statements in the posting that I found interesting and do not recall seeing in prior postings for coaches (basketball, football, or otherwise) Major Areas of Responsibility - Oversees selection of team equipment and apparel. (So for the haters of the Black uniforms (myself incuded) talk to the Coach if you want to get rid of the black)
- Must have a commitment to mental health and wellness and active engagement with the coordinator of student-athlete counseling services and programming.
- Participates in marketing and fundraising initiatives. Effectively participates in special events to generate interest within the College community, including alumni, as well as the local and regional community
- Understands emerging technologies and shows ability to use science and data to inform decisions when appropriate.
- Supports robust alumni engagement with the program by maintaining proactive and consistent communication and facilitates opportunities for mentoring relationships between student-athletes and alumni that support both student success.
Core Competencies - The requisite charisma, enthusiasm and empathy to effectively recruit, develop and lead student-athletes/coaches and supporters of the program.
- Collaboration: Exchanging information, ideas, thoughts and feelings thoughtfully with others in a manner that is proactive and enhances partnerships.
- Responsibility: Taking ownership of one's actions and accountability for one's tasks and duties. (Not sure I've seen this in any job description before but it could be boilerplate for all jobs at the college.
Git 'R Done, Kit!
Excellent news. Things have begun trending in a much more positive direction. Hopefully things are looking much better by May 1.

Speaking of Colgate, I believe for 35.00, you can watch their game and the other game in their "session" as the NCAA calls it. There are actually 4 sessions across the country you can attend for 13.00-20.00. Most expensive session is in Birmingham. I forget who is in it but it costs 223.00. You pay a lot more if one of the bluebloods is involved.

Bowling Green, (hello Kit), had 3 players enter the portal this morning including a point, Kaden Metheny, who we offered almost 4 years ago when he was a rising senior. He had 20 offers according to Verbal Commits including 4 high academic schools. I think he has 3 years of eligibility left due to a Covid year followed by a medical redshirt year. Averaged 10 ppg as a frosh in 20-21. Metheny was a 3 time 1st team All-Stater and WV player of the year as a senior. 2000+ points, NHS member. HS coach raved about his team-first attitude. Kid said he took real pride in his defense. Kit was at BG for Metheny's first year and a half.

I am going to guess Houser isn't very athletic as he only had 2 D1 offers coming out of high school. VMI and Navy. VMI listed him as a center.

Too bad we don't have a coach, yet. Two interesting portalers from New England: the big from Maine, (Campbell), and a point guard from Boston, (name escapes me but he's at VMI and played for Malden Catholic). Both are frosh. The Boston kid is 5'9" and averaged 10 ppg as a frosh. Not sure what Campbell did at ND. I think he is 6' 8". VMI has another frosh in the portal we might kick the tires on. Tyler Houser a 6’9” forward who along with his fellow frosh mentioned above, made All Rookie Southern Conference. He was 3rd team all-state large schools in PA last year and had a 4.0 gpa in hs. He stuck with his commitment to VMI when they made a coaching change last Spring. VMI had a tough year this year, going 7-25. Houser averaged 11 points and 5 boards. He’s a big kid, 235 lbs., but it looks like he likes to shoot 3’s since he took 120 of them this past season. He hit 35%. Came across him on the Fairfield board.

6'10" kid from Fairfield, who I believe had a good year, Chris Maidoh, is in the portal.

I said technically assuming Wilbur is still enrolled at HC. Portal is really heating up. 135 added in the last 24 hours. One from UMass who I think is their top player, Noah Fernando’s.

in 2024-2025 He has used his "free" transfer and will have to sit next season if he is at D-I So I'm guessing a school would have him on scholarship for the year he sits out to get his services for the next year,,,,, Can you get a waiver if your coach leaves which technically is the case.

NAD, you know my stance on names on the back. Also as I was in the screen printing business for 16 years, I think the current uniforms are very weak and yes look like Walmart printed them. I like the retro 1978 style with the royal and light purple piping. I think football needs names also. With every game now being on television it’s easier to know each player(remember the NHL game of the week in 1974? Names were added for that game only) I believe an overall upgrade in the program is needed and uniforms are part of it. I thought the 1978 look was very good also. I’d take them back in a heartbeat.

I think the Willard teams had a black uni that wasn't bad. The ones we had this year were bad.

What has to be fixed in addition to hiring a great coach? Changing leagues ain't happenin'; at least not in the near future (nor do I expect inquiries of any kind to be made even). OOC schedule including, but not limited to; guarantee games. What else? Ditch the black uniforms and go with a retro look from the Potter, Vicens, Perry era. Win and put some fannies in seats. Get rid of the guy with the mike. Nothing personal but I never cared for it. No more D3 games. Try to somehow rekindle the old New England rivalries. Maybe a tourney at the DCU like they did with the Icebreaker for hockey. See if the Bud Light Daredevils had grandkids. Get the basketball alums involved.

You have to be looking at 500-750k min for this position. You have seen what 250-350 gets you FWIW, someone on the Vermont board, (see coaching carousel), thinks HC is in that range in terms of a salary for the men's coach. Whether or not rumors about HC spending serious coin for a new coach are true, remains to be seen. I think the Catamount faithful are pretty concerned about Becker heading to HC.

Hard to say HC is "at the bottom" when there are so often teams below us. There aren't many below HC right now in D1.

"... the right way." That's the rub. Some would say tha right way is the way that wins. Others look to maintaining academic standards while having a winning program. And the balance between the two is the source of much disagreement. I think if HC were a player hoops wise on the national stage, the overwhelming majority of HC alums would want it done while maintaining our academic standards. As much as I love to follow HC hoops, put me squarely in that category.

My point in bringing up the disparity of where HC football and basketball are today versus where they were in 1978 (pre-Big East) is that unlike hitting the jackpot in hiring a guy like Chesney in football and bringing HC football to national prominence....the ceiling for HC hoop is only so high today compared to where we were in hoop in 1978. I know that the above is a popular point of view on this board, but I do not agree. The fact is, we are at THE BOTTOM of the Patriot League! We are holding the league back.
A model for success that we could emulate already exists in the West Coast Conference (WCC). For years, Gonzaga has been the class of the league, ever since they emerged from the pack years ago. What many may not realize, however, is that the rest of the league is now also making huge strides, and the overall quality has steadily improved. Their excellence has challenged the other teams, who have also been greatly improving. This article from "The Athletic" is very interesting and documents the changes that have been taking place.

We are not going to leave the Patriot League, as much as some might like us to do that, but we do have a path forward to excellence if we want to commit to it. I sense a willingness to move in that direction. I hope I am right! GoCross!Nothing wrong with excelling in many things as long as they are done the right way.

I have no idea but I do wonder who is minding the store while the top seat is vacant. As they say recruiting never ends and that applies to the current players more than ever right now. The ink wasn’t dry on the Buffalo Coach being fired and two of his players entered the portal.

While watching the AE Championship Game, I was wondering why the court at UVM had three 3 point arcs on it and then the MEAC game from the Scope in Norfolk came on and it had 4. What's up with that?

Becker took over an excellent program and has maintained its excellence. Skerry took over a toxic waste dump and turned it into a solid program - and quickly. Advantage, Skerry. Unfortunately, it would be Towson redux if Skerry came here.
