I can't remember the last time I was really looking forward to going to the Hart; it will be a real challenge for our motley little crew.

It looks like Kirkwood is earning more trust from the coach, while Wilbar seems to be going in the other direction.
Kirkwood himself did not have any numbers to speak of, but being out there at least helped CBN manage the foul situation.

Octave seems to me to be more of a scorer than a shooter. He reminds a bit of RJ Evans. Very good at getting to the rim and finishing in traffic. I had thought that myself trimster (the RJ comparison). Very similar style wise I think. To his credit, Joe stayed out on the court by himself before the game (after initial warm ups) to shoot a lot of 3's by himself. It didn't help him on Friday, but it sure did today!

Wasn't that the 10th foul? Shouldn't Batch have shot ft's? For some reason, I think they are showing total fouls for the game. Makes no sense.

I think we need Octave on the floor..He can shoot and score going to the rim, and defends pretty well..Keney clogs up the inside and gets in Gates way. He, Keney is very limited on offense..His defender can stay inside and clog up the lane area, Keney won't shoot it beyond 5 feet.... Octave seems to me to be more of a scorer than a shooter. He reminds a bit of RJ Evans. Very good at getting to the rim and finishing in traffic. I had thought that myself trimster (the RJ comparison). Very similar style wise I think. Happy New Year all!
So, it appears there are now 2 slots to fill for next year. These are obviously of extreme importance. Question is, do you look for impact freshmen, or scour the rosters of high majors for kids getting little playing time (to be ready to pounce)?
Need 2 home runs.

In another universe without four years to harden opinions that hook could be considered good coaching. I just hope Wilbar gets more chances to do things correctly. He strikes me as a project but you can't coach 6'11" and he has a decent combination of mobility and sturdiness. Sometimes you don't get both in a big at the low major level. More sturdy than Lewis and more mobile than Rabs, I hope he can be coached up and become a good contributor during his time at HC. I respectfully disagree on his mobility. He jumps slowly and is very slow to react defensively. Also, watch his rebounding. When he gets a rebound, he brings it all the way down to his waist and is often stripped in traffic.
Definitely a "project", but with limited upside IMO.
I've felt a bit uncomfortable about a small lineup, but I think they are just going to have to embrace it (seems like they did for one day). They could really use some solid inside play at both ends, and unfortunately that is what SW seems to struggle with the most. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Kirkwood's minutes ramp up a bit. Hasn't been spectacular by any means, but he hasn't been making any glaring mistakes (at least that I can see). In terms of where to play him, I just think they have to throw positions out the window at this point. Just have 5 guys ready to play as hard as they did yesterday, and shuffle minutes as best they can. Hopefully Kenney is back soon, to make it a little easier to manage fouls.

What was there not to like about today's game? Just one game, but it was nice to actually ENJOY it.
Lot's of pleasant surprises all around, starting with the crowd (had to be at least 1,000, and there was some energy). The guys really pulled together; was that the best half of defense in the Attack and Serve era (first half)? I was worried they would run out of gas, but they had just enough.
Kudos to DiMarz for calling for ramping up the D!
I'd like to think some of the missed threes by the Bison were due to our guys rattling and rushing them a bit. We also managed to fool the Bison twice with phony shot clock countdowns - once we sped them up into a rushed shot, and the other time slowed them down for a shot clock violation (or close to it).
Dorsey does seem to be developing some on court swagger.
GG is just a beast.
While congregating in the lobby post game saw Nathan Davis chatting with some Bison folks. He seemed pretty relaxed and smiling a bit. Bison137 won't see this, will he?

Looks like there is a different PBP guy...a rather large man.
Ron Perry Sr and Jr here. Must have needed to get out of the house (like me).

I think Joe Nugent is here....
Not seeing Louth.
Bison have so much more size.
GG deserves some sort of medal/special award. So much expected of him at both ends of the floor.

Could Lewis make a cameo ? He would look like a pinstripe on the back of Timmerman's (or Screen's, for that matter) uniform, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the atmosphere won't be quite as stoked as that Friday night 9 pm game years back (wasn't that the Willard-Flannery nose to nose game?).

I don't know if this puts me in the '87 camp, but I must say I do wonder about the future of D1 hoops in general. At the current pace there will be over 400 teams by the end of the decade. I suppose as long as March Madness remains popular that will be the glue that keeps things together, but doesn't something have to change at some point?
For me having kids stay 4 years and graduate was always one of the biggest attractions to following HC hoops; to be able to become connected with them, in a way. Right now, out of 12 schollie players, 5 have transferred at least once, and 7 haven't. Is that going to be the norm going forward, even with a coaching change? It will be interesting to look at things in a few years, when the Covid bonus year has filtered through, and the NIL has become more established.
I too would be fine with a top 125 HC team (certainly compared to now!!!), but I do wonder about the future of the sport as we know it today.......

Don't know, but if they could make them in at least 4 out of every 13 games they might have a better record than the current 3-10. I'm just curious if these type of wrinkles can be added to the offense right now.

On play #1, I could see Batch making a killing off of something like that.
With play #2, how about Octave (bulkier/stronger than Bo, able to absorb contact)?

As I've said all along, I am no coach. But how many fans have actually coached?
Nevertheless, I will take my stab at providing some feedback.
The big issue now for him is the length of the roster. Can't blame him for the injuries to Louth and Rabs (do they have to look at the floors again, by the way?). However, he is responsible for the 10 guys that are available. And, if he does not trust 2 or 3 of them to give them regular minutes, then I would say asking for things like pressing, trapping and going for a fast paced style is going to be extremely difficult to pull off. I like the idea of driving and dishing to perimeter shooters, but Dorsey appears to be the only guy with that skill from what I've seen. I say let Lewis sink or swim, put him in for 10-15 minutes for the next 3-4 games and see what happens. What in the world is there to lose at this point by giving him a real chance?
They already turn the ball over way more than they assist on field goals. I shudder to think what will happen if they kick it up a notch. Personally, I think they should do whatever they can to shorten the games, but they really don't have the personnel for that either (like good passing or protecting the ball). Without a big man to defend at the rim, I'm not sure how they keep guys like Records from dominating inside either.
In short, it looks like they are screwed. I sure hope I am wrong, and am rooting for a post Christmas miracle.
Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
Ebenezer Scrooge
