Meh...the CAA is obviously stronger than the PL right now but it's not the B1G or SEC. Outside of JMU, there are about 4 or 5 good/decent teams this year...but they are hardly stretches for a decent PL team. Cherry picking but we did beat UNH and Fordham did beat Richmond this year.
I think if we keep improving under Chesney, most CAA games for HC will be seen as winnable. Not definite wins but games we could win if we play decently.

The CAA is not the PL nor is it the goal of the PL member institutions to be the CAA. The PL brand is different from the CAA brand. The PL is an academics first league and prides itself first and foremost on the high academic standards and high graduation rates of its member institutions. As such the PL is one of the most highly respected leagues in the nation.I do not anticipate that the PL will sacrifice its high standing academics first policies to compete with the CAA schools. LoveHC Not for football. At all. Beyond that, there are plenty of schools (of all sizes and of all divisions) not in the PL who have wonderful academic reputations. Some stronger than PL football members. Some stronger than PL basketball schools. Notwithstanding purported league 'brands'. (My point being that if Colgate or Georgetown, for example, joined the CAA for football they would not see a diminishing of their academic reputation. It is more the institution and not the particular league 'brand' IMHO.)
(There may be an Ivy fan who thinks the PL has sacrificed its academic-first policies via the medical redshirt. I disagree. I also don't think we would sacrifice an academic-first policy with the non-medical redshirt and would like to see us do that too.)

Sir: You are known by the company you keep. You concocted an outlandish scenario - Colgate joining the CAA - to prove your point. Colgate is not going to enter the CAA. So why bring it up? Are you arguing that the CAA has an academic brand on the same level as the PL? You can't be serious. Check out the academics of the CAA schools and you will find that in the aggregate they do not match the academics of the PL schools. In the final analysis it is a question of an institution's perception of its integrity and its placement in the world of college sports. Your argument is based on a desire for success in sports. No? Your love of HC compels you to want to see HC compete at a higher level. I get it. One could use all the distractions in the world. But facts are facts. The PL is more highly respected for its academics than is the CAA. HC is an academics first institution and it has chosen to compete with other like-minded school, the PL. LoveHC Please tell me how Boston College's academic standing has dropped by being associated with those dumb public schools in the ACC? It's the opposite. Athletics boosts a school's academic profile...just as a great music program, theatre, etc. By the Patriot League hamstringing their teams with stupid archaic rules does nothing but filter down to the academic side. Patriot League is not well respected as a league. People either don't know it exists or think their sports stink. If I were Holy Cross I would cannonball out of the PL as fast as possible. But that's just one guy's opinion.

gks, No one called the ACC schools "dumb" (well, you did, but I am sure that was only to make a point.) However, they clearly do not have the same academic standards for athletes as the PL or the IL. That is certain.

4 pages on Gilmore ... Good Guy or ... mediocre head coach or ... both.
Next 8 pages will be on conference affiliation and we coulda been in the Big East.
We here on Crossports are a predictable lot.
Oh and BTW - This is the Georgetown Regular Season Final Thread!

BC makes compromises to compete in the big-time. And, we all know it as do BC grads.. Are you suggesting that HC makes the same compromises as BC or the CAA schools? I hope not. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. Please don't cite any extremely flawed public magazine polls as a measure of academic reputation. It's a question of academic integrity. Sports be damned, if need be! I would have expected that those on this board who graduated from HC, a first rate academic institution, would have understood and taken pride in HC's position. LoveHC I would argue that the PL schools are the exact opposite. They hold athletes to a much higher standard than the regular student. Athletes are not regular students at any school. A regular student after class can go hang out for hours or shoot hoops or play video games. Athletes are spending much more time with the athletic department than they do any academics. And they should because most, I understand not all, are getting a partial of full ride because of sports. People on this board make it sound like the PL is the only league where kids go to class and do the work. Well I can tell you where I went to school, gasp...a public university, had plenty of athletes in my classes and I can guarantee they were there more than me.

If we win, I am going to go the playoff game come hell or high water (wife's permission and kids' sports' schedules excepted).

This discussion borders on the ridiculous.
I am not at all sure that being in the ACC enhances BC’s academic reputation but it surely doesn’t detract from it.
Comparisons of MIT or Stanford to a conference is also off the mark,
It is a valid point that overall, the Patriot League is one of the strongest academic athletic leagues in the nation with only the Ivy League consistently viewed as superior academically and for most sports athletically.
In the Northeast, only the Ivy League is a superior athletic league academically for D-IAA football. The point made above has value, you are viewed by the company you keep.
I assure you that if Brown, for example, left the IL for the PL, their academic reputation would suffer, HYP, maybe not.

Why are we talking about this nonsense in this thread. We are playing for a CHAMPIONSHIP on Saturday. We are playing for a post-season birth for the first time in a decade. Let's get excited about that and worry about conference nonsense in the off season. See you on Saturday at Fitton!!!!!

Georgetown is averaging 21.8 points per game. I don't include their victory over D3 Catholic. Catholic BTW went 2-10 this year. For the life of me can't figure out who scheduled that game.
They had one outburst against Marist 43-3. If you exclude that game they have averaged 19 points a game.
The overall record of the teams they have played this year is 34-59. Only winning team they played was Davidson in the first game of the year. Davidson is 8-3. They lost to Davidson.
Non league: Catholic, Marist, Davidson, Cornell (3-6), Columbia (3-6). They did beat both Cornell and Columbia. They've lost their last 3 against PL opponents. Their record on the road this year is 2-3.

Big game for the Crusaders Saturday as they look to bring home the PL trophy for the first time since 2009.
Not only wanting to play the role of the spoilers and to have a winning season, the Hoyas are also looking to avenge a miracle comeback by the Crusaders last year in DC.
Having learned from their lackluster performance against Lafayette the first time the title was theirs for the taking, HC is thankful for a second chance, and will look to put the Hoyas to bed early within the friendly confines of Fitton Field, and seal up the championship by halftime.
In other news, Lehigh should beat Lafayette.

The Hoyas did beat Lafayette, but lost to every other PL team they have played. Massey has HC as a 10 point favorite (24-14). HC is given a 75% chance for the win. Here is the writeup on their last game (from the Georgetown site), a loss to Bucknell:
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Georgetown University football team held a 17-6 lead going into the fourth quarter, but Bucknell scored 14 unanswered points to defeat the Hoyas 20-17 in a Patriot League game on Saturday. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 5-4 on the season and 1-4 in conference play, while the Bison improve to 3-7 and 3-2 in the league. KEY STATS The Hoyas finished with 362 total yards with 199 yards through the air and 163 rushing yards. The GU defense held Bucknell to just 90 total yards through the first three quarters, including one passing yard and 37 total yards in the first half. The Bison did not register a first down until their final drive of the half. Gunther Johnson completed 14-of-24 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. Joseph Brunell also completed six passes for 81 yards. Joshua Stakely led the rushing attack with his first career 100-yard game, finishing with 139 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown. Joshua Tomas had team highs of seven catches for 83 yards. Xavier Reddick and Wes Bowers finished with nine tackles apiece, while Jonathan Honore grabbed his team-leading third interception of the season. HOW IT HAPPENED After a Tomas punt return that set the Hoyas up at the Bucknell 39-yard line, Johnson capped a six-play drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Tomas to put GU up 7-0. On Georgetown's next drive, a fumble was returned 55 yards for a Bucknell touchdown. [Sounds like something that HC needs to remember to avoid - the fumble e, not the return ] Quincy Chinwuko blocked the PAT attempt to keep the Hoyas in the lead, 7-6 Brad Hurst connected on a 23-yard field goal early in the second quarter to extend the advantage to 10-6. The GU defense allowed just 37 total yards in the first half, including just one passing yard, and did not allow a first down until the final drive of the half as the Hoyas led 10-6 at the midway point. [Georgetown has a good defense, and may challenge HC's offense.] Following Honore's interception, Johnson pitched it to Stakely who ran it in from 15 yards out to extend the GU lead to 17-6 midway through the third quarter. Bucknell scored two touchdowns within three minutes of each other to take the 20-17 lead with 10:47 left in the fourth quarter. The Hoyas were able to run just eight plays the remainder of the game as the Bison ran out the clock. OF NOTE Stakely's 139 rushing yards were the most by a Hoya since Jo'el Kimpela had 142 yards against Bucknell in 2015.

All,
No need to have 2 threads on the Georgetown Game. This one was set up for and got derailed a bit.
Moved Joe's new thread on the game here to get this thread back to talking about the game. It is a pretty important game.

They rush the ball 60% of the time. Whereas HC is about 50/50 rush/pass. They average 4.0 yards per rush. HC averages the same.
They complete 60% of their passes. HC completes 52% - that number needs to be higher.
Based on the amount of points they've scored this season, I think HC can hold them under 20 and like their chances. Have to take care of the ball. Harvard and Lafayette can't happen.

BTW. Cozier is averaging 6.2 yards per attempt this season. They are giving up 135 yards/game on the ground.

I wish Lehigh luck this weekend.

The way the Georgetown defense has been playing, interceptions may be more of a concern for HC than fumbles. If we don't get picked off and hold the ball I see "no worries" in reaching a 7-5 season . Having said that, I will, of course, "worry" throughout the game. It is a skill (and coping style) I have developed over many years.
