I thought McCollum was in the NBA...he's pretty good.
No excuses for the free throws.

68-60. Why can't we run an out of bounds play like that.

Get some kids in there with fouls to give out if the TO. Last chance.

Ridiculous fiddling and diddling looking for a good shot instead of shooting as time ticked away.

I have backed off the ledge from the 3:00 minute mark in the 1st half.
Very difficult matchup for a team with a Freshman PG (they were on Batch as soon as he crossed halfcourt) and roster still working things out. Team showed great fight coming back.
Gates is great and the next 5 behind him (Bo, JO, Batch, Kenny, Dorsey) are solid — season’s success will be dependent on 2-3 of those guys really stepping up (like JO did for stretches tonight) and others (e.g. Louth being healthy, Wilbar who just missed what would have been a big 2nd half 3) stepping into roles to fill out our depth.
Free throw shooting was abysmal and some empty possession when we had a chance to really turn up the pressure were killers.
We looked slower than I thought we would be — I have my fingers crossed that it was a case of the guys needing to get their game legs under them, because we need to play with pace to be successful this year.
GO CROSS GO!!! BEAT DEAN!!!

Ridiculous fiddling and diddling looking for a good shot instead of shooting as time ticked away. Looking a lot like continuation of last season. Is there no 3 point threat on the team? Everyone seemed reluctant to shot from outside. Nice to see a good crowd to support the team.

68-60. Why can't we run an out of bounds play like that. This business of constantly lobbing the ball to Gates as a safety valve on oob plays under the opponent's hoop has got to stop. That is the best you can on out of bounds plays? Come on, let's attack the hoop. Look at the excellent shot Siena got for Platek with the score 66-60

Mixed feelings about what HC showed tonight. There is talent here, but not yet the teamwork they will need. Let's see who comes out on Thursday and how the team looks. Octave and Montgomery showed nice aggressive play and Gates is an mid-season form.
Let's remember Siena did have a trip to Itay this summer. That extra game time does not hurt teamwork.

For the record Coach Nelson is now 1-22 vs Div I OOC opponents.
Team looked a lot like last year.
Offensively a lot of one on one. Only 7 assists on 28 baskets.
I realize that we will shoot better from the FT line than we did tonight. However, Kenney and Octave were a combined 5-15 from the line and they are going to get a lot of minutes and are career 55% and 59% FT shooters, respectively.
Liked a lot of what I saw from Batchelder. He's quicker than I expected him to be, seems to see the court pretty well, and can create a little to get himself shots. For his first college game he certainly was not awed by the moment.

I still think the Louth/Wilbar/Rabs trio have to be productive, for this team to take a big step forward. As I type this Justin VB just completed a 3 point play for Lafayette against Miami.

Several good things —
Thought Batch didn’t look overwhelmed in his first college game. The game didn’t look too fast for him. He largely made good decisions. Nice player.
Gates is a bull and is relentless. As he goes, HC goes.
Octave looked more like a slasher. Admittedly, don’t know much about him, but thought he’d look for the outside shot more. But he seems tough and will be a nice PL player.
I liked how Nelson at least tried to throw a wrinkle at Siena going to a 2-3 zone for several possessions.
Bad things —
Shooting is horrendous. And it’s not just at the line. 2-10 3PT FG won’t cut it.
If Dorsey is going to be playing around 25 minutes a night, he needs to have a line that’s more than 0 points, 2 rebounds, 0 assists. Yeah, he does some things that don’t show up in the box score, but he needs to do more.
We still can’t defend a pick and roll. It’s bad.
While it’s just one game, it’s hard not to think that the additions of Wilbar and Tse aren’t going to be all that impactful. Nelson needed to do better in this department in the off-season.
We have little depth.

Just back from the game, free throw shooting sucked and we need someone who can hit the three on a consistent basis. It seems like every team who comes to the Hart Center have at least 1 or 2 players who can shoot the three.

For those in attendance, was Coulibaly suited up ? If yes, did he look healthy in warm ups ?
