If a hotel stay the night before made a difference on whether we'd win or not, I'm all for it. However, I think most of us know it won't make a bit of difference so the good professor may have a point.

This apparently was about the Fairfield game in Bridgeport.

It might be debatable, but in the last week of classes, imo the prof is correct.

If Matheson supports the team then he can talk.
If he doesn't know where the Hart Center is shut up!

The team would normally leave the day of the game- professor has a point-but during the Christmas season I WILL NOT judge
Please win before we hit the new year, and may all of the student athletes do well on their exams

Knew I've heard of this guy. Think I watched a videoconference with him once. He's the alleged sports gambling expert and think he's the guy they trot out that says places like Polar Park don't help the local economy - and bigger stadiums and arenas don't either. Or am I mixing him up with someone else?

Students belong in class. Do as I say, not as I did.

Some profs are very pro athletes. Some are very pro athletes. Some are (rightly so) neutral. I don't know where this guy lies. Without more information, I put little in his opinon.

For team members, if the class was on Wednesday afternoon, the last class could have been zoomed and attendance could have been taken. After all, probably they all have 5G capable devices or have access to the internet on the bus or hotel.
Seems surprising since Brett has insisted that Basketball team members sit in the first couple of rows in the classroom, with no electronics to distract from listening to the lectures. However, the travel schedule should have been agreed with each team members Professor at the start of the semester.

I probably agree with the professor on the point but not sure he needs to air our dirty laundry publicly.

The way he wrote it, it might sound like “dirty laundry” but really isn’t. Bet most college teams do this. He just doesn’t like it. I’d be willing to bet some of his other students skipped his class for even lesser reasons.
Tempest in a teapot.

No opinion here.
134 miles away. Allow 3 hours just to be safe. How long before the game to ballplayers eat these days?
I kind of think if it were a day trip, they'd leave at noon, so no afternoon classes for them. Staying overnight, I'm sure they left late enough Tuesday to miss none of that day. So we're talking about an extra half day.

There might be some psychic income, but they're a net loss, financially speaking.

Do hope Matheson at least has his facts straight before publicly humiliating the coach.

I took his comments as calling out BN (kicking him when he's down?) where he might not call out Coach Chesney, and not calling out HC but instead painting the college and students as victims of the coach's big time approach.
I hope PVR puts a stop to this type of excess. Why would the head coach want to spend a night in a motel away from his wife and son and force the assistant coaches, DOBO, etc. to be away from their families to take a two hour bus ride a day early? If you can't get your coaching done in the regular allotment of time you are disorganized.

Don’t know the details of who missed what or what the options were but there’s absolutely no need for the tweet. Hopefully Rougeau informs the good professor that they will resolve such issues internally. And informs Nelson that his players should miss as little class time as possible this time of year.

If you can't get your coaching done in the regular allotment of time you are disorganized. This is essentially what coaches sign up for. D1 basketball teams travel to road games the night before, even those two hours from campus. Not going would be the exception rather than the rule. I think we probably should have made an exception if kids are missing classes in the last week of a semester but coaches are away from their families before every road game barring an exception.

I have no issues with Matheson or O'Donnell expressing their opinions. Whether you like them or not, it's a free country. Rougeau cannot and should not shut them up. They are tenured to my understanding. And, I'm pretty sure president Rougeau would have no interest in stifling either even if he disagreed.

And what is it you propose PVR say to Prof. O'Donnell?

He is at least aware of how far we have fallen-he gets any extra credit points on my exam all have a voice and should be free to express an opinion Even if and when I disagree
